École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette" (ESNAM) was established in 1987 in Charleville-Mézières, Ardennes, France, as a foundational education center for puppetry arts. It is supported by the French Ministry of Culture. ESNAM offers a three-year degree program, and upon completion, students are awarded the "Diplôme des Métiers des Arts de la Marionnette" (DMA), which is a national certification equivalent to a Level 3 professional qualification (Bac +2).
ESNAM has gained international recognition as a leading institution for puppetry arts, attracting students from around the world who are interested in this unique form of artistic expression. In recent years, ESNAM has become a creative hub for collaborative and interdisciplinary work, fostering artistic exchanges between writers, visual artists, stage designers, and practitioners of various theater and performance art genres.

It offers undergraduate BA (3-year) and graduate MA (1-year) programs, each with a department dedicated to puppetry. The BA program is an experimental course offered by the school, which has a strong reputation in the field, not only within the UK but also among puppeteers, especially those in visual theatre and physical theatre, which are other categories of puppetry. The Puppetry and Object Theatre within the MA (Advanced Theatre Practice) is a 1-year course that gives students the opportunity to experiment with their skills through collaborative work with other theater practitioners, including writers, sound designers, lighting designers, dramaturges, scenographers, set designers, actors, and directors.

The University of Connecticut offers several degrees in puppetry, including an MFA in Fine Arts. Students enrolled at the university can choose to take specialized courses in puppetry. Many graduates who majored in puppetry programs at the University of Connecticut are currently working as puppeteers in the fields of film, TV, theater, and education in the United States. The puppetry department at the University of Connecticut is located in a new building equipped with bright and spacious studios and workshops. Additionally, the department provides students with individual workspaces, including rehearsal rooms, casting rooms, and sewing rooms, for independent project work.
