UNIMA (UNIMA-Union Internationale de la Marionnette) is the oldest international puppetry organization in the world, which began in Prague, Czechoslovakia on May 20, 1929. Currently, the organization's headquarters were transferred to Charleville-Mézières, France by Jacques Félix in 1981. Under the auspices of UNESCO, it is the official international non-governmental organization for puppetry, with members from 90 countries worldwide. UNIMA Korea is the Korean branch of the international puppetry organization, having obtained its corporation status last year and opened its office in Chuncheon for the first time in June. Positioned as the forefront base of an international exchange platform to establish Chuncheon City as a mecca for world puppetry, it aims to create a stepping stone for domestic puppeteers to enter the international market as well as to engage in domestic matching projects with esteemed foreign puppetry artists. Currently, it is conducting a feasibility study for the establishment of the long-awaited by Korean puppeteers, and discussions are underway for the reopening and educational cooperation programs of the newly appointed Chuncheon Puppetry Museum.
